News to Use

Help Stop the War Before it Starts
Join a statewide anti-war rally Nov. 9 in Columbus. Opponents of war against Iraq meet at 11 a.m. at Goodale Park before marching to the Statehouse. For more information, visit www.geocities.com/cincydemo.

Resist Global Arms Sales
Protests in Cincinnati against the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue (TABD) in November 2000 galvanized the local resistance movement (see www.citybeat.com/tabd/index.html). This year the TABD meets Nov. 7 and 8 in Chicago. Chairing this year's meetings are two of the world's largest weapons manufacturers, the Boeing Co. and BAE Systems. Many critics have contended globalization fuels exploitation, violence and war. Two cars from Cincinnati will take protesters to Chicago. For details on joining the movement, visit www.azone.org/notabd.

Help the Owensbys Obtain Justice
The family of Roger Owensby Jr. asks the public to join them in seeking a federal investigation of their son's death and of the way the Hamilton County Prosecutor's office handled the case. To support the Owensbys, write U.S. Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Representatives, 2138 Rayburn HOB, Washington, D.C. 20515 or call him at 202-225-3951. Write U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, 224 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510 or call 202-224-7703.
