A 'Point of Pride

2009 MidPoint Music Festival persevered and thrived despite the rain

By Mike Breen

Now in its eighth year, MidPoint 2009 faced rain each of its three nights. But, in a testament to how much the festival's reputation has grown since its inception, attendance hardly seemed impacted by the grey, wet weather. Even on the Thursday opening night (traditionally the "slow" night of the event), a steady drizzle didn't stop local and regional music fans from packing the clubs, tents and makeshift venues.

MPMF opens the floor to a Saturday afternoon conference

By Staff

After a one-year absence in 2008, the MidPoint Music Festival has brought back the daytime "music conference," with useful panels and discussions about a range of topics of interest to all types of independent musicians. All panels are Saturday afternoon, so pace yourself Friday night — the first two are at the Garfield Suites Hotel, MPMF.09 headquarters, and the final one takes place at the Contemporary Arts Center.

Same Glow, New Home

By Jason Gargano

The Lite Brite Film Test is on the move. Long a mid-summer fixture at the Southgate House, the creatively diverse visual showcase now has been folded into the MidPoint Music Festival. Befitting the shift, this year's lineup looks to be bigger and better than ever, pimping a host of shorts and several full-length features at its new home, the Contemporary Arts Center. (Programming will take place in both the upstairs lobby and in the black box space downstairs 8 p.m.-midnight Thursday-Saturday.)

Welcome to Music Town, USA

A message from the MPMF.09 head honcho

By Dan McCabe

Dear MidPoint Performer: Welcome to Cincinnati, the city I've enjoyed living, working and making music in for the past 20 years. I hope your experience is a great one. And I hope you don't leave. Really. Take a good hard look around while you're here. The rent is cheap, the architecture and geography are stimulating and the people are generally sweethearts. But Cincinnati is also building something, and we need more builders with your kind of tools.
