Is it Time to Cut and Run?
Notes: The recent debate about whether or not the United States should continue to pour troops and dollars into the war in Iraq raised so many questions in my mind. How long should we maintain our obligation to democratize Iraq? Will we ever know that our job is done? Would it be unethical to "cut and run"? As I read about suicide bombers igniting death after death in Iraq (and as I re-examine our rationale for warring with Iraq in the first place), I can't help but wonder if both nations would benefit from the pull-out of US troops. At this point, "staying the course" feels more like defeat than anything else.
maybe I'll eat those words next year on the 4th of July when the US finally rids the entire world of each and every last terrorist.

I forget how long it's been
Don't know how we'll ever get out in the end
I forget why it began
Don't know anyone who knew why way back then
Don't know when we'll know its done
Don't know who will be the judge
Don't know where it's going and where it's really been
Don't know what we're fighting for
Don't know when to close the door
Don't know if we all are waiting for someone
To tell us that it's time to cut and run
Is it time to cut and run?
I remember days before
Times were good and life was knocking at the door
I remember how we'd laugh
Now our laughing days are locked up in the past
2,000 deaths, is that enough?
is it time to cut and run?
Does freedom ring with every bomb?
is it time to cut and run?
Is this a war that can be won?
is it time to cut and run?
Don't know when we'll know its done
Don't know who will be the judge
Don't know where it's going and where it's really been
