The series opens with the one-two punch of Scottish Indie Pop darlings Camera Obscura (June 4, pictured) and the much-buzzed about Neon Indian (June 11). Rounding out the month are MidPoint vets Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (June 18) and reunited Pop/Punk Chicago band Smoking Popes (June 25). July’s MidPoint Indie Summer headliners are Pomegranates (July 2), the Cincy-via-Oakland-via-Cincy-(again) trio Why? (July 9), You, You’re Awesome (July 16), Wussy (July 23) and Eat Sugar teamed with one-man-band oddball Bob Log III (July 30). August has soon-to-be-huge Indie Roots band Dawes (Aug. 6), Buffalo Killers and The Lions Rampant (Aug. 13), Bad Veins (Aug. 20) and Brian Olive, who (along with his band) will be touring with The Black Keys next month (Aug. 27). The series closes out with a Labor Day weekend kick-off featuring the funniest men in Rock, We Are Scientists (Sept. 3). Get more details at Fountain Square's web site.
More Local Notes
• Five years ago, local Boogie Woogie piano master Ricky Nye was looking for musicians to join him for his European tour dates. French Blues pianist Julien Brunetaud hooked him up with a trio of musicians — guitarist Anthony Stelmaszack, Simon “Shuffle” Boyer” and bassist/harmonica player Thibaut Chopin — and together they’ve performed numerous shows and festivals and even released a 12-track album, Ville Du Bois, recorded in Paris amidst a series of tour dates.
Nye brings the band, dubbed Ricky Nye and the Paris Blues Band, to the U.S. for the first time for a string of shows beginning with Friday’s gig at the Southgate House with guests Straw Boss and Greg Schaber. Pick up next week’s CityBeat for more on the group’s Greater Cincinnati tour, which ends with a 3 p.m. slot May 16 at Maifest in Covington’s MainStrasse area. (www.rickynye.com)

Excellent foursome The Guitars are the premiere Ultrasessioners, performing this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
