• New local band The Ready Stance makes its debut appearance Saturday at the Northside Tavern. The free show also includes performances by Goose and Wussy’s Chuck Cleaver. Local music fans who have been following the scene since before Facebook and MP3s will likely recognize at least a couple of familiar faces in The Ready Stance’s rank. Guitarist Wes Pence and drummer Eric Moreton were founding members of Middlemarch, one of the key bands of Cincinnati music’s early-’90s heyday (another member, Zy O. Lyn, has been recording and touring with The Heartless Bastards). The new band started when Pence (who was then just jamming with friends on weekends) became neighbors with singer/guitarist Chase Johnston, who had just returned to the area after living in Athens, Ga., and performing with the band Stories Below. Pence then invited bassist Paolo Conti (one of his weekend jam pals) and old cohort Moreton to sign on. The band is currently working on recordings and has been posting songs at www.myspace.com/thereadystance as they’re finished.

• This Saturday and Sunday at Eden Park marks the return of the Cincinnati Juneteenth Festival, an annual cultural event celebrating the end of slavery.

The event features tons of music on two stages, beginning Saturday at 1:30 p.m. On the Seasongood Pavilion stage Saturday, local artists like Ms. Jaz, Basic Truth, New Brasil with Andre Souza, The Last Boppers and Soul Power with Nu Soul perform. Saturday’s headliners are popular ’70s Dayton Funk band Slave and Cincinnati ’80s hitmakers The Deele, which launched the careers of L.A. Reid and Babyface. Sunday’s 3 p.m. “Father’s Day” concert at Seasongood Pavilion will feature a wide range of local choirs and Gospel performers. • For many years, Rebecca Bedel (then Rebecca Vie) was well-known on the local open mic scene, hosting popular nights at clubs like Arlin’s and The Mad Frog. These days she’s following a different path — yoga — but she hasn’t given up on the musical side of things, recording several albums of healing/yoga music. Bedel and her musical partner Mike Burgasser will celebrate their most recent album (Bedel’s fifth) Saturday at 8 p.m. at It’s Yoga (346 Ludlow Ave., at the old Ludlow Garage space in Clifton) for a Summer Solstice Celebration. • Long-running local Rock band Rocket Science — which cites “cartoons, science and rockets” as influences — celebrates its new album release, Rocketology, with a free show Friday at Charlie’s Throttle Stop in Fairfield. Showtime is 8 p.m. (www.dbwsound.com)

• Fountain Square’s summer live music nights were expanded this year to include a Monday evening Jazz night, featuring the Chris Comer Trio and a special guest each week. This Monday, Comer and Co. are joined by Jazz guitarist Dick Sorice, while future special guests include Bossa Nova guitarist Jorge Zilio (July 12 and Aug. 23), percussionist/steel drummer Stan Ginn (June 28 and Aug. 2) and Jazz/Hip Hop crew IsWhat?! on July 26.
