But it’s the Northside Rock & Roll Carnival/Parade/Festival that features the best lineup of homegrown bands and musicians. And it’s so cool you don’t even have to miss the other Fourth of July events and fireworks displays around town because the fun takes place Friday and Saturday, with no events on the actual Fourth.
The Rock & Roll Carnival begins at 6 p.m. Friday in Hoffner Park, and the eclectic lineup of music includes The Long Gones, The Sundresses (pictured), You You’re Awesome, The Kiss Me Everlasting, The Tempers and Queen City String Band. Between sets (and around the grounds) you can catch the unusual performances of The Pickled Brothers Sideshow and fire artistes Incendium Arts.
Saturday’s fun begins at noon with the always-entertaining Fourth of July Parade. Immediately following the parade at 1 p.m., the Festival takes over Hoffner Park and goes until 1 a.m. Saturday’s musical lineup features Cletus Romp, Ricky Nye Inc., The Tigerlilies, Daniel Martin Moore, Baoku Moses & the Image Afrobeat Band, Brian Olive and State Song.
All of the Northside festivities are free. For full details and schedules, go to www.northsidejuly4.com.
