His holiness the Dalai Lama will travel to Cincinnati to accept the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s International Freedom Conductor Award. This award honors those whose actions public and private reflect the spirit and courageous actions of the Underground Railroad conductors. The recipients of the IFCA are contemporary individuals who have made significant contributions to freedom and human rights around the world.

“The Dalai Lama’s tireless efforts on behalf of Tibet — and his life-long advocacy of freedom and peace for all people — are in the finest traditions of those abolitionists who fought for the eradication of slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries,” Freedom Center CEO & President Donald W. Murphy says in a press release. Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, will be honored at a lunch at the Duke Energy Center on Wednesday. After receiving the IFCA, Gyatso will speak and answer questions. The doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. This event is sold out.
