As exciting
as it is to have The Black Keys back in Ohio to kick off their first arena
tour, you should also be stoked for opening act The Arctic Monkeys.
On the
scene for a decade now, the Monkeys’ American fan base is relatively small
compared to in the U.K., their homeland, where they’re a really big deal. The
band’s Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not was the fastest selling
debut in British history, outselling chart vets Oasis.
If you’re unaware of the Monkeys, be prepared: They sound very little
like The Black Keys. Heralded as leaders of the U.K. Post-Punk revival, Alex
Turner and Co. make a noise akin to what The Clash and Sex Pistols were doing
40 years ago. Jolting guitars and screamed, feisty lyrics make up much of The
Arctic Monkeys’ four albums and that should make for a perfectly wild and rowdy
warm up to the Keys’ headlining set.
THE ARCTIC MONKEYS play Friday, March 1 at the U.S. Bank Arena with headliners The Black Keys. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
