On some Final Fridays there’s too much going on
to recommend just one show — so how about three within walking distance? First
up, Primaries at Yes in
Over-the-Rhine celebrates the work of more than 20 international artists and
designers who examine the chromatic possibilities inherent in humble heroes red,
yellow and blue.
Then head over to Clay Street Press, which presents a solo
exhibition of new prints and paintings by prestigious local artist Joseph
Winterhalter. Expect The Revolution Says
to further the painter’s exploration of contemporary institutional spaces and
the emotional responses they evoke. Two blocks east, the Art Academy of
Cincinnati hosts Sub-Surfaced, a
senior thesis exhibition featuring works by Scott Bunge, Tyler Hilton,
Julio Labra, Justin Mangan, Vladimir Plitsyn and Chris Schimmel.
While each of these young artists maintains a unique approach to craft, they
are united by a focus on surface, both as a material property and metaphor. Primaries, 6-10 p.m., Yes, 1417 Main St.;
The Revolution Says, 6-9 p.m., Clay
Street Press, 1312 Clay St.; Sub-Surfaced,
5-8 p.m., The Art Academy of Cincinnati, 1212 Jackson St.
