Keen has been around since 1981, writing songs for himself as well as for artists such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, George Strait and many more. When Keen gets the chance to do his own songs his way, he does them with a bit more freedom and whimsy than when higher profile artists take on his work.
Keen, who has for years been a regular at such acclaimed festivals as Merlefest, released his most current full-length, Ready For Confetti, through the Lost Highway imprint in 2011. Despite gaining some creative ideas from experiencing life on the road, Keen was never one to actually write songs while traveling. But that changed with Confetti, as he wrote the majority of the cuts while on tour. For Friday’s show in Covington, Keen will be backed up by Rich Brotherton on guitars, bassist Bill Whitbeck, former Dixie Chicks drummer Tom Van Shaik and steel guitar player Marty Muse.
ROBERT EARL KEEN performs Friday, Jan. 18 with The Danny Frazier Band at Madison Theater in Covington. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
