THIS WEEKEND LOCAL BAND THISTLE (pictured) heads up one of the best bills of up-and-coming Indie Rock groups to hit town in a while.
What's most refreshing is the diversity of the lineup. Washington, DC's Jack Potential (featuring members of Burning Airlines) will be supporting their latest release, Alibis, an impressive mesh of epic, muscular ArtMetal and inventive Emo (think a less melodramatic Tool). The Firebird Band features members of Braid and Joan of Arc and their latest release, The Setting Sun and Its Satellites, is a phenomenal, unique blast of primal, inventive Post-Punk. Rounding out the bill is Columbus' own Silo the Huskie, whose self-titled Cargo Records debut is a fantastic slab of sonics, mixing the unlikely fields of Roots Rock with powerful Emocore. Thistle, who are nominated for a Cincinnati Entertainment Award this year for Best Indie/Alternative act, are currently gearing up for a single release in the next month or so (check www.thistlewired.com for more info). All in all, this is an excellent chance to see four diverse and creative talents under one roof.
At Top Cat's on Saturday.
