This international celebration of Fair Trade, with
events taking place in over 80 countries, takes place on May 9. And who better
to host locally than Ten Thousand Villages (2011
Madison Rd.) a store dedicated to making fair
trade goods available.
In a press release about the upcoming celebration, Ten
Thousand Villages highlights a few of the activities you can attend.
OGADE Drummers - May 9 1-3pm
Oxford Gourd & Drum Ensemble (OGADE) is an evolving community of percussion enthusiasts.
While the group has been more involved with West African rhythms, they also
have fun with rhythms from Cuba,
Brazil, Haiti
and other places around the world. Among the instruments that are
incorporated are the djembe, doumbek, dun dun, various flutes, shekeres,
gourdonium, gourd trumpets, balaphon, mbira and tambourines. (weather permitting)
