Prodigal Son, Extremely Close and Concerto #4

Emmi MacIntyre
March 22 at 8 p.m. March 23 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. , Friday March 22 | $31.
Prodigal Son, a ballet based on the biblical parable of a wayward son and the redemptive grace of a father’s love, is as timeless as it is emotional and thought-provoking. It is choreographed by the legendary George Balanchine, one of the most influential choreographers in American history and set to music composed by Sergei Prokofiev to be performed by the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra.

Additionally, Cincinnati Ballet is thrilled to welcome legendary dancer Edward Villella to Cincinnati to provide additional coaching in the setting of Prodigal Son. Mr. Villella has been heralded as America’s foremost male dancer of all time and went on to found Miami City Ballet and serve as its Artistic Director from 1986 to 2012. When Balanchine recreated Prodigal Son in 1960, he set the title role on Villella. Mr. Villella’s presence in Cincinnati provides a rare and unique link to the Balanchine legacy.
