Current Trends in Drug and Alcohol Abuse
The event will feature Michael Davenport, a 16-year veteran of the police force and a current detective with the Montgomery Police Department, who will share current drug trends with sections devoted to marijuana, alcoholic beverages and foods, heroin and bath salts. Davenport will also discuss dangers of purchasing and selling, how and why different drugs are used and methods of purchasing. The session will raise awareness of illegal and prescription drugs being used by juveniles - highlighting their effect on users, what the drugs look like, how they are being marketed and legal ramifications if possessing drugs and alcohol. Parents will leave the session with substance abuse and prevention tips.
Davenport’s previous experience as the assistant commander of the Drug Abuse Reduction Task Force, which focuses solely on building cases to convict drug traffickers, coupled with the fact that he’s a self-proclaimed teacher at heart makes him uniquely qualified to share information with the community. Davenport is also a University of Cincinnati graduate.
