Steve Carell and Jim Carrey team up once again — Remember Bruce Almighty back when Carrey ruled the box office? — but this time, it’s Carell who’s the real draw   

There's something terribly romantic about the bond that develops between Ewan McGregor's and Jim Carrey's gay lovers in a con-man story not far removed from a great film like 'Catch Me If You Can.' There's a sincerity in both movies than humanizes its criminal protagonists and celebrates their abilities to outwit the lawmen that tirelessly pursue them. Grade: A-.  

Robert Zemeckis' remake of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' follows on the heels of 'The Polar Express' and 'Beowulf' and strives to bring real human three-dimensional aspects to the characters, ideally to move us beyond video game-styled computer generated images. But Zemeckis and his crew have struggled to fully render soulful eyes complete with an intangible sense of movement behind the reflective surfaces. Grade: C-plus.
