Cincinnati Indie Rock quartet The Sweep hosts a release party for its latest effort, the full-length |||, at Over-the-Rhine’s MOTR Pub Saturday. The album will be available at the free show on both CD and colored, 180-gram vinyl. Showtime is 9:30 p.m. The Sweep’s third album is its greatest triumph so far.  

You might think you’re getting the joke in Soapland’s name, assuming it refers to the long and profitable presence of Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. Soapland wouldn’t be the first to take a jab at P&G’s pervasive profile. When Wizard Records owner John James conceived his 1988 local album project, his original title concept was We Built This City on Pork and Soap.  

At first, the Shivering Timbers existed solely as an outlet for the couple to write songs for their daughter Suzi. Then, as their story of improbably good fortune goes, they ended up playing at the birthday party of The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and the birthday boy dug Timbers so much that he encouraged them to make a record, eventually materializing as last December’s We All Started in the Same Place, which was produced by Auerbach.  

The Cincinnati Entertainment Awards program is an attempt to remind local musicians that their contributions are greatly appreciated. It's also an attempt to bring together musicians (as well the non-musicians who work to support and nurture the scene) from across the local music spectrum to have an outrageously good time. Having a full bar in the room might be a factor, too, as will be in evidence Sunday night at the Madison Theater.  

Kim Taylor is not content with a single dream. Her desire to live off her musical endeavors has largely been fulfilled with a steady stream of physical and digital releases (the latest being the gorgeously sparse 'Little Miracle') and the required supporting gigs, an increased profile from advantageous song placements on television shows (including 'One Tree Hill,' 'Eli Stone' and many others) and frequent appearances with her friends Over the Rhine.  

If it's seemed like Cincy Folk trio The Tillers haven't been as omnipresent on the local club scene this summer, that's because the group has been spending a lot more time on the road since the release of its sophomore album, By the Signs. The band has been playing clubs and festivals throughout the Midwest and East Coast but come home Thursday to open for Ramblin' Jack Elliott at the Southgate House.  

More than 700 independently-owned record stores in the U.S. are participating in the third annual Record Store Day Saturday, including three of Cincinnati's finest sources for local music: Shake It (live music starts at 4 p.m., headlined by The Seedy Seeds), Everybody's (music at noon with Magnolia Mountain and Kim Taylor) and Mole's (throwing down a cook-out and hopefully some live music).  

The problems in Haiti aren't going to end anytime soon, so thankfully the stream of local Haitian relief benefit concerts continues to flow over the next few weeks (and hopefully months). Here are several Haiti-related happenings this week.   

Organizers for Sunday's "Help for Haiti" benefit at Oakley's 20th Century Theatre put together a show in just a few days, and the massive and diverse roster of performers shows just how quick to help local artists are when an important cause comes up. The 6 p.m. concert will have Them Bones featuring Cheryl Renee, Freekbass, Kathy Wade, Kevin Fox, Sonny Moorman, Scotty Anderson, Phil DeGreg Trio, Steve Schmidt, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Robin Lacy and DeZydeco and many more acts. Suggested donation is $20. Proceeds go to the Red Cross.
