What do this weekend? Maybe some summer cleaning? Go to the pool? It is going to be 90 degrees outside but I’m not gonna shell out $8 to wade in urine while a bunch of tots scream their heads off. I think I’d rather get jiggy to some good, old Rock music. For free. The MidPoint Indie Summer music series continues with an all-local lineup on Friday night.  

The names of many of the performers for this year's MidPoint Music Festival (coming up Sept. 23-25) have been leaking out gradually over the past few months. But this Friday, mpmf.com will unveil a new interactive schedule with all of the artists scheduled to play the event.  

Dawes' debut album, last fall's 'North Hills,' evokes the desert sunset beauty of the best of SoCal's '70s Country/Rock movement while the band makes its sound and message completely relevant to Indie fans of the here and now. Fans of early Wilco, Son Volt and My Morning Jacket will find plenty to embrace in Dawes, who play this week's MidPoint Indie Summer show with Messerly and Ewing, The Sweep and Goose.  

Bob Log III, opening for Eat Sugar Friday on Fountain Square as a part of the free MidPoint Indie Summer Series, is a Delta Blues mash-up of Hasil Adkins and Super Dave Osborne. He's a one-man band who uses his hands to scorch through razor-sharp slide-guitar licks like the second coming of Mississippi Fred McDowell, his feet to play with the fury of an armless Keith Moon and his chased-by-a-hellhound voice to howl over the musical racket he's making on any given stage.   

Take some initiative and invite everyone you know down to Fountain Square again for the MidPoint Indie Summer Series show on Friday. Local Rock superstars Wussy will be headlining at 10 p.m., while The Chocolate Horse, Fairmount Girls and Sparrow Bellows will be revving up the crowd starting at 7.  

Drop by Fountain Square Friday night for another free Midpoint Indie Summer Series concert, this week featuring You, You're Awesome supported by Pop Empire, The Flux Capacitors and The Western. As always, the weekly event features munchies, draft beers and cocktails as well as MidPoint Music Festival T-shirts and discounted MPMF wristbands for late September.  

Last Friday marked the kick-off of the free MidPoint Indie Summer series on Fountain Square, a jammed-pack affair headlined by Scottish Indie Pop troupe Camera Obscura. This Friday, Cincinnati's The Minor Leagues and for algnernon join national buzz bands Neon Indian and Wild Nothing. MidPoint Music Festival three-day passes are available at all Indie Summer shows for $29 while they last.   

In their 14-year history, Scottish Indie Pop collective Camera Obscura has benefited from high profile endorsements — legendary DJ John Peel was an early champion and Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch produced CO's debut full-length in 2001, 'Biggest Bluest Hi Fi' — while stuffing their press kit with glowing praise for each successive album. With the departure of co-lead singer John Henderson, Tracyanne Campbell is alone at the mic, but she clearly has risen to the occasion.  

The upcoming MidPoint Indie Summer concert series on Fountain Square (three bands for free every Friday) opens with Scottish Indie Pop darlings Camera Obscura June 4, the much-buzzed about Neon Indian June 11, MidPoint vets Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit June 18 and reunited Pop/Punk Chicago band Smoking Popes June 25. And that's just the first month.  

Bands and artists the world over can now register to take part in the 2010 MidPoint Music Festival, a three-day (Sept. 23-25) downtown Cincinnati party that's rapidly becoming a highlight of the region's musical landscape. Be be warned: The final submission deadline is May 15.
