Cincinnati’s newest seafood restaurant is also its best. Welcome to Porkopolis, Anchor OTR. I love the scale of this restaurant. No, not the fish scales! The size and scope. It’s just right.

I just read in New York magazine
that pumpkin is the new bacon. They may be on to something. Listen to
this shopping list a friend just posted on Facebook: pumpkin coffee,
pumpkin oatmeal, pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin butter, pumpkin cider and
pumpkin-chip biscotti. Eat that and you’re likely to start glowing all
orangey.
Mason surprises with new Malaysian dining experience

Malaysia is located so far from here most
of my friends couldn’t point it out on a map. But lucky for us, Ohio
just welcomed its first Malaysian restaurant right outside Cincinnati.
In the belly of an old municipal building in Mason is the new restaurant
Straits of Malacca.

There’s a certain wave of reassurance that
washes over a person while in the presence of someone radiating with
confidence and passion for his craft. Chef
Nathan Jolley — who operates his tiny restaurant, Burnell’s, out of the
former Mayberry location on Vine Street — is such a man.

Adriatico's and Eli's BBQ on top 100 "cheap eats" list
Cincinnati
restaurants Adriatico’s and Eli’s BBQ got national recognition this week when
they appeared on Urbanspoon’s top 100 “cheap eats” list. Urbanspoon chose these two eateries, as well
as 98 more, from the million (yes, million)
restaurants in their database.
Eli’s BBQ upgraded
from a tent at Fountain Square and Findlay Market to a permanent home in the
East End this year. They serve smoked meat and home-cooked sides. On Friday afternoons, you can bring your own drinks to accompany the
pulled pork and macaroni and cheese on your plate. Eli’s offers hickory-smoked
ribs, all-beef hotdogs, pulled pork sandwiches and more. For a longer rundown of
Eli’s BBQ, check out CityBeat's review
of the joint.
Adriatico’s
brings New York style pizza to the Queen City. The pizzeria and sports bar
is open after midnight each night, so you can get your late-night pizza fix
after most places are closed. And since pizza isn't complete without beer, this place has plenty of it. With more than 40 beers on
tap plus tons of craft bottled and canned beers, you’re able to mix and match pizzas and brews for
the best combination for you. To keep up
with Adriatico’s, check them out on Facebook.
Congratulations
to Cincinnati’s cheap stops to fill up and leave full. Once you give these
restaurants a try, check out more local spots because Cincinnati has a lot to offer when it comes to eating.

New and notable on the dining scene is
the latest addition to the Washington Park/OTR/Gateway District — The
Anchor (14th and Race, Over-the-Rhine). After a few days of serving
family and friends to get in the groove, full-service operations started
on Sept. 18.

Shanghai Mama’s was closed for nine
months following a fire last October. There was some despair among
downtowners as the months dragged on. Call it the dark night of the
soul. But Mama’s back, and I’m happy to report that she’s better than
ever.

Today, gourmet dining is wheeled around in carts or prepared to
order in trucks. Local food vendor Jamie Williams jumped on the
bandwagon and launched Cincy Bag Ladies in the spring of 2012 with one
mission: Let people eat without plates.

Lisa Kagen is an artist, a chef, a parent and an entrepreneur — and all of those
identities factor heavily into the operation of her two Northside
businesses: Melt Eclectic Deli and Picnic and Pantry, a market that
serves healthy, sustainable groceries and prepared foods.

Tim Lambrinides opened Silver Ladle on Sixth Street back in March. The new “fast casual” restaurant serves a variety of hearty sandwiches, a dozen soups, fresh salads, gluten-free options and, of course, its own twist on Cincinnati-style chili and coneys.
