Andre Williams, also known as Mr. Rhythm, made several salacious R&B records for independent labels, produced Ike Turner, did live shows with Little Willie John and managed Soul singer Edwin Starr. He was slipped into drugs, alcohol and homelessness in the 1980s. But now at age 73, he is releasing a new album.

Columbus’ The Kyle Sowashes play a brand of tight and catchy Guitar Pop that sounds all too familiar, but is easily likeable, nonetheless. The members are Indie vets recruited from other bands by Sowash and they all have some chops. These four bearded dudes are entertaining, but they also have the songs to back it up. The play the Southgate House Parlour Friday.

Life is complicated and sometimes it’s helpful to take a step back and slow down. In those times, turn to Hoots and Hellmouth, an Americana/Folk foursome from Philadelphia. These foot-stompin’ fellas take two guitars, an upright bass, a mandolin and some spectacular vocal harmonies and wrap listeners in a blanket of uplifting music. They play Monday at the Southgate House Parlour.

An elephant will be in the room Thursday when Jeff Daniels, the singer, songwriter and guitarist, performs at the Southgate House. That elephant is the simultaneous presence of Jeff Daniels, the acclaimed actor in such movies as Terms of Endearment, The Squid and the Whale, The Purple Rose of Cairo and Dumb & Dumber. Daniels, the musician, doesn’t try to pretend that his “other” career doesn’t exist. He performs Thursday at the Southgate House.

Post Punk provocateurs Mad Anthony are in a celebratory mood with the imminent release of their excellent debut full-length on Phratry Records. But even as Mad Anthony for this Saturday’s release show at the Southgate House, there is a somber undercurrent. With final tracking done and the mixing process beginning this past March, Mad Anthony was devastated by the news that their acclaimed drummer and dear friend Tony Bryant had taken his own life.

A new release is among a young band’s best benchmarks, and Post Punk provocateurs Mad Anthony are in a celebratory mood with the imminent release of their excellent debut full-length on Phratry Records, I Spent All My Money on Speed Metal. But this past March, Mad Anthony was devastated by the news that their acclaimed drummer and dear friend Tony Bryant had taken his own life. It was a nearly insurmountable heart punch. They play Saturday at the Southgate House.

Nearly three and a half decades ago, Webb Wilder and R.S. Field lit out of their native Hattiesburg, Miss., homesteads and headed for the bright lights and smoky bars of Austin, Tex, and nothing has been the same since. They bring their unique "Swampadelic" mix to Southgate House on Friday.

Make a car and the Japanese will find a way to improve it. Build an electronic device and the Japanese will find a way to make it smaller. Make a loud and dirty Rock noise and the Japanese will find a way to make it louder and dirtier and potentially lethal, which is precisely what Boris has done. They play at Southgate House Wednesday.

If it’s true that you’re known by the company you keep, Bill Kirchen is very well known. The Titan of the Telecaster, as he’s been rightfully tagged, keeps company with Elvis Costello, Paul Carrack, Nick Lowe, Maria Muldaur, Dan Hicks and Commander Cody on his latest album, Word to the Wise. But, truth be told, those guests are probably more interested in keeping his company.
