After more than a yearlong hiatus, Art After Dark final Friday cocktail parties are back at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
This Friday, July 30, head to the museum to celebrate and investigate current exhibit Paintings, Politics and the Monuments Men. While typically ticketed, admission to this show is free during Art After Dark.
The exhibit explores art, intrigue, Nazis and World War II — as well as Cincinnati's own Monuments Man, Walter Farmer. It takes visitors through a lesser-known period of art history via the "Berlin 202." These 202 paintings, which were originally on display in the State Museums of Berlin, were extracted from salt mines by the U.S. Army after World War II.
The works then went on a 14-city journey across America in 1948-49 in what the CAM says became the "first blockbuster art exhibition of our time."
In addition to a free look at Sandro Botticelli’s “Ideal Portrait of a Lady,” and works by artists in the "Berlin 202" from the CAM's permanent collection, guests will enjoy live music, swing dancing, a cash bar and food for purchase.
Things kick off with DJ ETrayn 5-8 p.m. on the Art Climb.
Food from Dewey's Pizza and Sweets & Meats BBQ will be available 5-9 p.m., as will a cash bar.
Then 6-9 p.m., the Monday Night Big Band will take over the Alice Bimel Courtyard with swing dancers from Pones.
Registration is not required.
The next Art After Dark will take place Aug. 27.
