One of BLINK Cincinnati's most popular attractions will be back bigger than ever this year. The installation in question? The Architects of Air luminarium.
At 2017's inaugural festival, the inflatable structure took up residence at Washington Park as BLINK's only ticketed attraction. (It cost $5.)
Attendees could walk through the maze-like attraction and be immersed in a wonder-inducing dreamscape of color and light. Founded by Alan Parkinson in 1992, Architects of Air's works, as cited on their website, take inspiration from "natural forms, geometric solids (and) Islamic and Gothic architecture."
"Those who attended BLINK in 2017 will remember the Architects of Air luminarium, Katena. For 2019, you will enjoy Dodecalis, a new and magical experience making its world premiere at BLINK," announced Brendon Cull, senior vice president and COO of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, on Thursday.
Dodecalis' unveiling marks the installation's world premiere, as sponsored by Macy's. Matt Stautberg, Macy's senior vice president of corporate planning, relayed the company's enthusiasm to support Architects of Air's sculpture at BLINK.
"We are the presenting sponsor of Architects of Air," he said, "which will be one of the largest installations in BLINK 2019."
Unfolding on Oct. 10-13, BLINK will also expand across the Roebling Bridge and into Covington; its reach will stretch from Over-the-Rhine's Findlay Market to the Cov's Braxton Brewing Company. Like last year, the festival will feature large-scale project mapping, murals and more.
BLINK is produced by Agar, ArtWorks, Brave Berlin, the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.
