Oktoberfest Zinzinnati this year is honoring local heroes through its traditional Chicken Dance.
Each year, organizers choose a person or group to be the Grand Marshal(s) to lead the festival’s crowd in the Rich Walburg World’s Largest Chicken Dance. For 2023, the Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) will be shaking its tailfeathers as the Grand Marshals.
“The Cincinnati Fire Department is integral to what makes events like Oktoberfest Zinzinnati happen. Behind the scenes, these hometown heroes ensure the safety of every attendee at events like Oktoberfest every year,” organizers said in a press release.
This Oktoberfest also marks the final working event for CFD’s Capt. Eric Tombragel, who has been with the department for 33 years and served as fire captain for special events for the last seven years.
Oktoberfest returns with an extra day this year Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 14-17, kicking off Thursday with opening ceremonies at 4 p.m. Along with the extra day, the festivities are also being moved north from The Banks to Fifth Street, between Main and Columbia Parkway and the I-71 on-ramps.
CFD will lead the World’s Largest Chicken Dance at the Samuel Adams Oktoberfest Main Stage at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Oktoberfest runs 4-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. For more information, visit oktoberfestzinzinnati.com.
