If you were planning on heading to the movies to see some animated ducks this weekend, you could also see some real ones while you’re at it.
To coincide with the release of Illumination’s new animated movie, Migration, which is about a family of ducks who get lost in New York City while flying south to Jamaica, Cincinnati duck rescue Longbottom Bird Ranch will be at Kenwood Theatre Friday and Saturday with some feathered friends you can meet.
Longbottom Bird Ranch is located on the West Side of Cincinnati and takes in all breeds of abandoned or injured domestic ducks. The rescue holds various meet-and-greet events throughout the year to help raise awareness about the issues abandoned domestic ducks face in the winter. Unlike wild ducks, which migrate to warmer climates for the winter, domestic ducks can’t fly far — or at all. When they’re abandoned outdoors, they can starve or freeze to death during the colder months.
Moviegoers can meet, pet and learn more about these ducks from noon to 3 p.m. both days.
Kenwood Theatre, 5901 E. Galbraith Road, Kenwood. Learn more about Longbottom Bird Ranch at longbottombirdranch.com.
