The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has been voted the second best zoo in the nation in USA Today's 10Best reader's poll.
The initial round of Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited North American zoos were picked by a panel of experts and then readers were able to vote for their favorites.
Here's what the USA Today write-up says about the zoo:
The Cincinnati Zoo (one of the oldest zoos in the nation) brings visitors nose-to-nose with a range of exciting animals. Guests can view hippos underwater (including world-famous hippo Fiona), pop up in a bubble amid meerkats or watch cheetahs racing at top speeds. The multi-sensory Night Hunters exhibit hosts cats and other nocturnal predators, while Manatee Springs seeks the long-term conservation of the Florida manatee by encouraging guests to observe these gentle giants.
The zoo dropped one from its top spot as the best zoo in the nation in 2019. This year, that honor went to the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas.
However, in this year's CityBeat Best Of Cincinnati issue, the zoo won reader's picks for Best Kid-Friendly Attraction, Best Holiday Light Display, Best Instagram Account, Best Old Thing, Best New Thing (Kris the cheetah cub actually won this), Best Do Gooder, Best Friend to the Environment, Best News Story of 2019 (the birth of the baby giraffe), Best Place to Take a Visitor and Fiona the hippo won Best Cincinnatian.
So it's safe to say that while the readers of USA Today may think our zoo is No. 2, Cincinnatians think it's No. 1.
