While Black Friday might be the nation's biggest shopping holiday for big-box stores, Small Business Saturday celebrates all things local and independent.

This Saturday, Cincinnati's long-running shopping pop-up event Crafty Supermarket returns for the 13th year.

From 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Nov. 26, more than 100  independent makers, artists, crafters and vendors from Greater Cincinnati and across the U.S. will take over Music Hall's ballroom. Admission is free and the first 100 shoppers will get a free swag bag.

Crafty Supermarket was inspired by indie craft shows co-founder and organizer Chris Salley-Davis had seen in other cities, and held its first market with just 20 vendors at the Northside Tavern in 2009. It then expanded into the Clifton Cultural Arts Center in 2010 before heading to the Music Hall ballroom in 2013, where it's been held ever since (save for the virtual events that took place during the pandemic).

Vendors for the market are jury-selected, and include returning favorites as well as new talent, all offering what Salley-Davis calls "quality handmade items."

“It’s really exciting to offer a platform to help launch independent artists and their careers. Indie craft shows are important because they promote small businesses and help those businesses connect to a new, loyal customer base," says Salley-Davis in a release. “So much shopping is done online these days, but people enjoy buying directly from a small, maker business. It’s also not just about shopping, it’s about connection."
