The relatively mild summer is giving way to what could well be a mild fall (with hopefully no more hurricane residue this year), so maybe the only excitement we’ll see this season will be this year’s Classical music offerings. As always, Maestro Paavo Jarvi and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra offer a wide array of talent for the CSO’s 115th season, including the Sept. 17 one-night-only appearance of Classical piano superstar Lang Lang (pictured). The Sept. 25-27 program features acclaimed young violinist Alina Pogotskina.
October’s guests include guest conductor Kristjan Jarvi (Paavo’s brother) and bandoneonist Carel Kravenhof (Oct. 2-3), guest conductor/pianist William Eddins (Oct. 9-10) and violinist Sayaka Shoji (Oct. 15-17). November welcomes guest conductor Stéphane Deneve and violinist Henning Kraggerud (Nov. 20-21), while December offers guest conductor Tito Muñoz and pianist Ingrid Fliter (Dec. 4-5). The Cincinnati Pops, carrying on despite the death this week of long-time conductor Erich Kunzel, offers a great fall slate starting with the Sept. 11-13 tribute to John Williams, featuring Star Wars music and narration from Anthony (C3PO) Daniels, and the Oct. 11 “Motown 50” performance with guest conductor Steven Reineke.
