Coming off a season that gave them their highest win record, first playoff berth and first playoff win, FC Cincinnati is looking forward to new adventures next year. Major League Soccer released 2023 schedules for each of its 29 clubs on Dec. 20.
FC Cincinnati's 34-match slate kicks off with the club's first-ever season opener at TQL Stadium, a match against the Houston Dynamo FC on Feb. 25. All of Cincinnati's previous season-opening games had been played on the road.
On April 8, FCC will welcome the Philadelphia Union to TQL Stadium, and Cincy will travel there on Sept. 16 for the follow-up. Philadelphia holds special interest for Cincinnati fans, as it was the top-seeded Eastern Conference team that fed the Orange and Blue a 1-0 loss during its second-ever playoff game in its first-ever playoff run. In addition, FCC head coach Pat Noonan had been an assistant coach for Philadelphia prior to taking the reins at FC Cincinnati last December. Chris Albright, general manager for FC Cincinnati, also had been with the Union as technical director before coming to Cincy in 2021.
One week later, Cincy will travel to St. Louis to battle the newest team in the MLS, the St. Louis CITY SC. The Western Conference expansion team's stadium, Citypark, broke ground in 2020, two years after Cincinnati began construction on TQL Stadium.
"Hell Is Real" is back on May 20, with the Columbus Crew visiting Cincinnati for the first dust-up among the Ohio teams. FC Cincinnati then will head to Columbus on Aug. 20 to finish the job. The August match will be broadcast on FS1, Cincy's only national broadcast of the season.
FC Cincinnati's final regular-season match will bring Atlanta United FC to TQL Stadium on Oct. 21.
The MLS All-Star Game is slated for July 19, at Audi Field, home of D.C. United. The opponent will be announced at a later date.
This year, MLS is adding the Leagues Cup, with a battle between MLS and Liga MX clubs July 16-Aug. 19, pausing all MLS competition. According to a press release, FC Cincinnati will host two group stage matches. More information will be announced later.
All matches will be available on Apple TV, with the Aug. 20 game also appearing on FS1.
Season tickets are on sale now, while single tickets will go on sale Jan. 26. Find the full schedule on FC Cincinnati's website.
FC Cincinnati had a banner 2022 season, including its first-ever MLS Cup postseason berth, a postseason win against a higher seed and a club record for consecutive scoring games. Cincinnati went 12-9 with 13 draws in the regular season, clinching its spot in the playoffs with a win over D.C. United during the final game Oct. 9. The Orange and Blue followed that up with an MLS Cup playoff victory against the New York Red Bulls, with the season coming to a close on Oct. 20 with a playoff loss to Eastern Conference top seed Philadelphia Union. The 2022 season also marked the first time Cincinnati did not finish in last place in the Eastern Conference.
