Time is running out for you to sign up for a once-in-a-lifetime chance for you and your friends to take flight over the Ohio River.
Red Bull is bringing its Flugtag – an event that challenges teams to build a flying machine and pilot it – to Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove Saturday, Aug. 12. Up to 40 teams will try to soar as far as possible as they launch off a 27-foot-wide flight deck over the Ohio River in front of thousands of spectators and a star-powered panel of judges.
Cincinnati’s Red Bull Flugtag was first announced in March with a press conference with Mayor Aftab Pureval and Red Bull Air Force athlete Jeff Provenzano, who has taken part in and judged past Flugtags.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome such a unique and fun spectacle to Cincy,” Pureval said at the time. “Red Bull Flugtag offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for residents and visitors to get together, show off their creativity, and celebrate what makes this community so special. I can’t wait to take part.”
Teams will be judged on their craft design, performance and the distance of their flight. They’ll also be competing for exclusive Red Bull experiences, meet-and-greets with Red Bull athletes and more, according to a press release. The judges panel will be announced at a later date.
College students can also apply to be part of the Kroger College Crew. If you’re selected, Kroger will provide $500 in building materials and a $100 Kroger gift card to fuel up for the build. All interested teams need to apply with their college email addresses to qualify.
Registration for Cincinnati’s Red Bull Flugtag ends Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. You can apply to participate here.
Team selections will be announced Monday, May 29, and they can begin building right away up until Friday, August 11.
The Red Bull Flugtag will be free to spectators.
