A photo of what may or may not be a new Cincinnati Bengals jersey design has been circulating this month, and we’re not sure what to think.
On March 7, social media users began circulating photos from an eBay listing for a Joe Burrow jersey. The seller, “originaljersey81,” titled the listing “NFL CINCINNATI BENGALS JOE BURROW Game NIKE Jersey - Orange NWT.”
The jersey in the photos is reddish-orange with three black tiger stripes on both shoulders and Burrow’s number centered in white. An NFL shield rests at the bottom of the v-shaped neck. The back again features Burrow’s “9” in white, topped by his name in the same color.
The seller indicates that the jersey is an officially licensed Nike product and is made of 100% polyester tricot. It’s listed for $72.49.
Fans are unable to buy the product now, though, as a note at the top of the listing says “The seller is away until Apr 05, 2021. Add this item to your watchlist to keep track of it.”
Could this jersey be an NFL shop version of what’s in store for the Bengals? Back in January, the team teased that new uniforms would be revealed this spring. Using the hashtag #NewStripes, the Bengals thus far has offered no glimpse of the new jerseys but have said that the team’s signature helmet is here to stay.
The Bengals have posted stories and photos of previous team uniforms, from 1968 through the present day.
So is the jersey in the now-paused eBay listing the real deal? Could the seller’s April 5 return date be a sales embargo pushed by the Bengals? Or is this just some knock-off jersey that has nothing to do with what the official jerseys will look like?
According to its eBay profile, “originaljersey81” has been on the popular sales platform since 2016 and has 432 positive ratings from the last 12 months, as of March 15.
There is no white version of this jersey listed as of March 15.
