That feeling? It's a wave of happy childhood nostalgia washing over you because Mason amusement park Kings Island is bringing back its classic antique car ride in spring 2019. Kings Mills Antique Autos will mimic the park's guest favorite Les Taxis car ride, which closed 14 years ago this week.
It's definitely not a roller coaster but the return of this wholesome auto adventure is almost as exciting, especially for those of us who were children when the original was around and thrilled at the chance to "drive" before turning 16.
On the ride, guests can climb aboard two-thirds sized replica classic cars (think early 1900s open-air Ford Model Ts) and "steer" them along a scenic track, with a rail to keep young/wild/idiot teenage drivers on the right of way.
“When we ask guests what they would like to see return to Kings Island, the most popular response, by far, is the antique cars,” said Mike Koontz, vice president and general manager for Kings Island in a press release. “For so many, it’s an attraction they remember riding with family or it was their first ‘driving’ experience as a kid. That’s why I think it holds such a special place in their hearts.”
The route will take drives on a three-minute, quarter-mile long jaunt and is located by Coney Mall and the Racers roller coaster. For more info visit visitkingsisland.com.
