The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has added a new VIP Animal Experience to its offerings: a chance to meet a Little Blue Penguin, up close and personal.

The penguins are located in the new Roo Valley habitat, where guests can go behind-the-scenes with a team member to learn more about the "charismatic creatures." Up to six people at a time can interact with the Little Blues, the world's smallest penguin species.

Little Blue Penguin Experiences take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and cost $50 per person. You can reserve a slot at cincinnatizoo.org.

In addition to the penguin meet-and-greets, there are also opportunities to get close to a cheetah and watch them make a "purr"fect painting that you can take home; work side-by-side with the elephant care team to give one of their pachyderms a bath; or opt for a Feathered Flight encounter where exotic birds will soar right over your head.

“We were not able to offer the popular Ameritas Wings of Wonder Bird Encounter to the public this summer due to COVID safety considerations, so we got creative and found a way to give smaller groups the opportunity to be amazed by bird behaviors,” says Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard. “These Feathered Flights experiences were so popular that we added up close encounters with cheetahs and elephants. The up-close penguin experience is our latest addition and is already getting rave reviews.”

Learn more about the VIP Animal Experiences and reserve your encounter at cincinnatizoo.org.
