If you’ve ever been splashed by a stingray, dared to cross the world’s first suspended rope Shark Bridge or had an otherworldly experience in the neon glow of the jellyfish room, now is your chance to show your support for the Newport Aquarium.
As a part of USA Today’s Readers’ Choice 2019, the Newport Aquarium is once again in the running for Top 10 Best Aquariums in the country. It placed sixth in 2017 but at the time this story was published, was at No. 1 on the list — placing ahead of Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, which won last year.
It’s a good sign, but the competition isn’t over yet. The polls will stay open until April 22, so vigilant voting is key to make sure that the Newport Aquarium stays at the top and shows those other aquariums what’s what.
The Newport Aquarium is celebrating its 20th year in 2019, opening Jim Henson’s Splash and Bubbles Reeftown Adventure, a new interactive exhibit based on the animated PBS kids’ show of the same name. Freshwater Falls will open in April, a new 13-tank exhibit that will give visitors the chance to explore the underwater habitats beneath streams and waterfalls.
Vote online once a day until noon, April 22 to help the Newport Aquarium win best aquarium in the country. Winners will be announced May 3.
