
The report found at least 21% of Americans (1 in 5) have a mental health issue, and 55% of those people are not receiving care. Twenty-eight percent have unmet needs when it comes to care.
While Ohio ranks 38th, it wasn't the lowest ranking in the Tri-State when it comes to mental health care: Indiana came in at 45th. On the reverse, however, is Kentucky, which ranked 10th. Wisconsin, Illinois and Pennsylvania, respectively, ranked in the top three.
In order to rank the states, QuoteWizard looked at five metrics using data from Mental Health America: prevalence of mental illness in the state, access to mental health care, percent of those with a mental illness not receiving care, percent of people with a mental illness and mental illness in relation to health insurance.
In Ohio, 24% of people identified as having a mental illness. Fifty-six percent of those people are not receiving care for their mental illness while 28% have unmet needs. And 10% of Ohioans with a mental illness do not have health insurance.
