A new subterranean nightclub/music venue is slated to open beneath the streets of Over-the-Rhine this winter.
Ghost Baby is the brainchild of local entrepreneur Josh Heuser, founder of AGAR, the creative marketing and event agency known for its work on local experiences including the Ubahn Fest, BLINK, Danger Wheel and more.
The venue will hold 160 guests and is located five stories below Vine Street in a 170-year-old lagering tunnel formerly used by Champion Brewing (beer was aged and cooled in lagering tunnels before the advent of refrigeration). The historic, dimly-lit space, which has been vacant since the 1850s, features soaring ceilings with stone archways and will be adorned with "crushed velvet and unpredictability," says a release. Guests can expect an immersive experience with art, design, cocktails, music and more.
“My partners and I imagined an intimate and inviting space founded on the principles of consideration, respect and camaraderie. Our goal is to acknowledge each and every guests’ expectation as well as individual and collective experience,” said Heuser in the release. "The Ghost Baby space was instrumental in bringing our concept to life. The space is exceptional; it has been around for a very long time and we are honored to care for the space, celebrate its beauty and pay homage to its history while also creating new experiences, stories and memories.”
To carry out the principles that are at the forefront of his venture, Heuser is collaborating with The Academy, "a society of scholars, artists, socializers, observers, and the like, intent on establishing a space focused on inclusion and belonging and creating an inviting, one-of-a-kind experience," reads the release.
Ghost Baby will also be partnering with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in order to create a music program customized for the venue.
“We’re excited to partner with Josh and the Academy to curate intimate, alternative musical experiences just for Ghost Baby,” said Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra President Jonathan Martin in the same release. “CSO musicians and our visiting guest artists often love to get outside of Music Hall, and the CSO and Ghost Baby have a shared goal of bringing brilliant talent to new audiences in unexpected spaces. We’re excited to be part of a community of amazing artists, and partnerships like this help make our city a vibrant, thriving incubator for great art.”
