Pick Six

Film Fringe offers half-dozen titles chosen by Chris Strobel and Sara Drabik Mahle

Just in time to rescue us from another week of safe, reheated Hollywood product (yes, I’m referring to you, Sex and the City 2), Film Fringe is back featuring six films that will screen in conjunction with the theater-based Cincy Fringe Festival, which runs June 1-12.

Film Fringe Committee Co-Chairs Chris Strobel, a onetime organizer of the local 48 Hour Film Project, and Sara Drabik Mahle, former head honcho of Underneath Cincinnati, communicated this about fest’s lastest batch of offerings: “Having looked at all the entries, all we can say is that there are some beautifully different people out there. And with that, we celebrate the different, the random, the non-Hollywood films of our time. Or, as we like to call them, the Film Fringe.”

The half-dozen films diverge in style and subject matter and include such titles as Brian Brinker’s Hour of the Dinosaur: A Talk with D.J. Chuck, a documentary about local Internet radio D.J. Chuck Mattingly; Eric Risher’s Through Fox’s Eyes, in which “two unsuspecting victims cruising on a road to nowhere come face to face with their worst nightmare;” and Christian Appleby’s Lynching, America’s Nightmare, a documentary that looks at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s recent exhibition featuring photos of lynchings.

FILM FRINGE screens at 7 p.m. June 6 and 8:15 p.m. June 10 at Media Bridges (1100 Race St., Over-the-Rhine). For more information, go to www.cincyfringe.com/film.
