Oktoberfest Zinzinnati may have moved "In Za Haus" (and into restaurants and bars) this year instead of hosting the traditional second-largest Oktoberfest gathering in the world, but traditions haven't changed.
The World's Largest Chicken Dance is still took place (on Sept. 19) and, yes, the annual Running of the Wieners is still happening — just in a different way.
Instead of proud pet parents and their dachshunds in dirndls lining up side-by-side at a starting line, the race has moved to the virtual realm. Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is currently accepting videos of wieners running in the yard, on the sidewalk, anywhere really (except in the street; it's unsafe) at oktoberfestzinzinnati.com. Oktoberfest says you can also "enter by using the Hashtag #2020runningofthewieners on Instagram."
This year's award will be handed out to the fan favorite doggo and not the physically fastest. Videos will be posted online and the public will vote for their favorite wiener. You can vote until 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 and the best boi (or girl) will be crowned at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 during the Oktoberfest virtual closing ceremony.
The winning wiener will get a $50 PetSmart gift card and their human handler will get a case of Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer.
