The nonprofit has launched a new e-bike incentive in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, offering a $500 rebate on certain e-bike purchases to promote active transportation in the city.
"E-bikes decrease rider’s carbon footprint, improving their physical and emotional health while eliminating wear and tear on roads," Matt Butler, president of the Devou Good Foundation, says in a release.
Due to the drastic differences in transportation emissions between bike and car, "This incentive program can reduce CO2e by 34,595g per mile traveled," says the release.
The foundation has $50,000 to dole out (which equates to rebates on 100 e-bikes) on a first-come, first-served basis.
Northern Kentucky residents in Covington, Newport, Bellevue, Dayton and Ludlow and these Cincinnati Zip Codes 45202, 45203, 45204, 45205, 45206, 45219, 45214, 45220, 45223, and 45226 are eligible. E-bikes can be purchased either online or in-store (Devou Good recommends Rad Power Bikes) and must be priced between $1,199 and $2,500 to qualify for the incentive. Purchases must take place after Feb. 15, 2022, with a limit of one per mailing address.
Apply for the $500 rebate online at devougood.com/ebike-rebate. Have a digital copy of your receipt ready. The foundation says completed applications will be reviewed and processed within three weeks, and checks will be mailed out after approval. If you answer a survey, you will also be entered to win a $250 gift card to a local bicycle store.
The Devou Good Foundation says e-bikes are "the world’s best-selling electric vehicle" and quotes a New York Times article suggesting sales will hit 130 million worldwide between 2020 and 2023.
The popularity of active transportation demands an increase of active transportation infrastructure and the foundation says they are investing "$3 million in safer infrastructure for walking and bicycling with (the) Active Transportation Fund." Nonprofits and government agencies can apply for grants from the foundation to fund projects like bike paths, traffic-calming measures and off-road trails.
