Public art can be an excellent way to get to know the personality of a city, to see how it expresses its culture. And according to USA Today, there are few expressions better than the art that can be found here in Cincinnati.

“10Best,” USA Today’s travel information hub that frequently relies on reader input, recently announced Cincinnati as one of the best cities in the country for street art. Readers voted for our outdoor displays and other nominees in April and May after a panel of judges had culled the initial nominee list.

Cincinnati clinched the No. 2 spot on the list, beating out cities such as Atlanta, Houston and Detroit. The street art in only one city in the entire country ranked higher than the Queen City — Oklahoma City.

The newspaper directly credits ArtWorks Cincinnati with creating the public murals that ranked the city so high. ArtWorks, a nonprofit founded in 1996, has spent the last 25 years collaborating with professional artists, local businesses and teams of local youth in order to increase the area’s reputation for the arts. Their completed projects can be viewed all over the city, including via murals "The Golden Muse" and "Ice Cream Daydream." Both murals are located in Over-the-Rhine and are referenced by USA Today

During its call for votes in April, USA Today highlighted “Faces of Homelessness,” a mural that Iranian Brooklyn-based artists ICY + SOT (Saman Oskouei and Sasan Oskouei) painted on the side of the Recovery Hotel in 2017 to raise awareness about housing and homelessness in Cincinnati.

This 2021 honor is just one of many that USA Today’s “10Best” has given to Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Art Museum was recently named one of the best free museums in America, while Fountain Square was listed as a top public square
