Watch the 146th Kentucky Derby with Themed Events at These Greater Cincinnati Bars and Restaurants

The 146th Kentucky Derby takes place Saturday, with limited fan attendance at Churchill Downs. If you want to sip mint juleps and watch the most exciting two minutes in sports somewhere other than home, here are a few options.

So the "most exciting two minutes in sports" may only be run in front of about 23,000 fans this year, versus the usual more than 150,000 extravagantly hatted individuals. But several Greater Cincinnati area bars are hosting their own Kentucky Derby watch parties so you can still dress up in a fascinator and seersucker, grab a mint julep and watch it on TV. 

NBC will air the 146th Kentucky Derby 2:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.

Hotel Covington — Coppin's at Hotel Covington is offering a weekend's worth of Derby dining. Grab lunch or dinner Friday, brunch or dinner Saturday or brunch on Sunday with "specialty mint juleps, lily slushies, bourbon slushies and six feet of Social Distancing." Rich's Proper Food & Drink — Rich's is hosting what they're calling a Proper Derby Soiree. Starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, they'll begin airing race day coverage on a 20-foot projection screen outside. Table reservations for dinner are available at 4:30 and 5 p.m., and Derby post time is around 6:45 p.m. In addition to the giant outdoor projection, they'll also be offering Derby drink specials: $15 Woodford chocolate mint juleps with a commemorative cup, $9 Old Forester mint juleps and $9 Finlandia Frozen Lily's. A Derby-inspired dinner menu will be available at socially distant tables in the parking lot. Live music from Kyle Knapp starts after the race and goes until closing.
