Camp Washington's Wave Pool has announced Brooklyn-based Nola Hanson will be the gallery's August artist in residence — and their first remote resident.

Hanson is the founder of Trans Boxing, an art project and boxing club for trans and gender variant participants. During their residency from Aug. 17 to Sept. 7, Hanson will be exploring Cincinnati’s rich boxing history via a variety of participatory and conceptual art projects. They will also be providing free virtual boxing training to Cincinnati’s LGBTQIA+ community.

Virtual boxing classes will take place via Zoom from 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 7 and are open to all levels of experience. Admission is free and the meeting code is 967-090-926. For more information, and for the meeting password, email [email protected].

Hanson is an MFA candidate in the Art and Social Practice program at Portland State University, and the 2020 Artist-in-Residence at New York City nonprofit More Art. The work they create during the Cincinnati residency will be shown at a Wave Pool exhibit titled An Effort to Defend in May 2021.
