Ohio has yet another reason to call itself #1, thanks to a tiny, elderly Chihuahua.
Spike, a 23-year-old, 12-pound Chihuahua from Camden, Ohio has been dubbed the oldest dog in the world by Guinness World Records, the organization said in a Jan. 19 press release.
According to Guinness, Spike was found by owner Rita Kimball in a grocery store parking lot in Camden, Ohio, less than one hour north of Cincinnati. He was about 10 years old at the time, and Kimball said he was in very rough shape.Say hello to the new oldest dog in the world! 🥰️

“He had been shaved up his back, had blood stains around his neck from a chain or rope, and looked pretty rough,” Kimball told Guinness. “The clerk in the grocery told us he had been there for three days, and they were feeding him scraps [...] When we left the store and entered the parking lot, he followed."
It was happily ever after for Spike who glommed onto Kimball and embraced the life of a rural Ohioan, taking lots of walks in their rural hometown.
“He visits with the animals in the barn: cows, horses, and barn cats,” Kimball told Guinness.

Spike reportedly loves to spend his time napping, eating Doritos, taking Saturday evening baths, and hiding his toy fox around their house in Preble County.
Kimball told Guinness the key to a long life for your pet is a healthy diet, room to roam and exercise, and "unlimited love and attention."
