If just playing Mario Kart isn't enough to get your adrenaline going, get ready to cosplay like Toad or Yoshi as you zoom around a secret track for Cincinnati's first Mushroom Rally go kart race.

This race, which is obviously based on Mario Kart but seems to be avoiding copyright infringement, invites racers to "race against their favourite characters while collecting stars to win amazing prizes" (favorite spelled the Queen's English way because the event originated in Australia).

The rally will take place in 16 cities across the United States starting with Los Angeles in March 2019 and ending with a national championship in Las Vegas, pitting the finalists from each city against each other in a grand finale. The Cincinnati races take place during multiple time slots 9 a.m.-9 p.m. June 15, 16, 22 and 23. Tickets are $55.

Tickets to participate in the Cincinnati event are extremely limited and on sale now via this link.

Entry includes a free themed costume, 30 minutes of racing and games and activities. Anyone taller than 4-feet 10-inches and less than 300 pounds can race.

The race will take place at Go Full Throttle go kart track at 11725 Commons Drive in Tri-County.

There are three ways to secure one of 20 spots in the Las Vegas championship:

  1. Have the fastest time lap in your city.
  2. Collect the most starts in your city (the top three star collectors will go to Vegas).
  3. A lottery — every person who purchases a ticket to the event will be entered into the lottery.
