Best Drag Act by Ebenezer Scrooge: 'The Legend of Georgia McBride'

Best Drag Act by Ebenezer Scrooge

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s production of The Legend of Georgia McBride told the story of an Elvis impersonator required to change over to a drag act to spur attendance at a down-on-its-luck bar. As the title character, Michael Gerard Carr made the unlikely transformation guided by a veteran drag queen named Tracy, played by Bruce Cromer. If his name is familiar, it’s because Cromer — who teaches acting at Wright State University and is one of Greater Cincinnati’s best professional actors — has become known locally for his 13 years as Ebenezer Scrooge every December in A Christmas Carol at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. He totally inhabited this role with emotion and charm — and not a trace of “Bah, humbug.” Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, 1127 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine, 513-421-3555, ensemblecincy.org.
