A burgeoning community of Guatemalan refugees are beginning to call Price Hill home. And establishments like the Maranata Store are offering both a taste of Central America and an authentic cultural experience for outsiders. The tienda stocks ethnic groceries while the modest restaurant serves colorful cilantro-infused ceviche, pork pupusas, fried plantains and three-milk cake. The Guatemalan-style tamales alone are worth a trip. Bigger than their Mexican counterparts and cooked inside banana leaves, these homemade tamales are only available on Saturday and Sunday and come filled with chicken, beef or pork.
