Best Summer Blow-Out

After canceling 2020’s large public event due to COVID-19 (they still shot off fireworks from a secret location), the 45th annual Riverfest took place over Labor Day weekend in 2021. Launched more than four decades ago to celebrate the 10th anniversary of radio station WEBN (102.7 FM), this bash officially signals the end of summer with a series of colorful explosions in the sky. In addition to food, music and one of the largest firework displays in the Midwest — thanks to Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks — set to music from host WEBN (you are 100% guaranteed to hear “Smoke on the Water”), festgoers can expect to see half a million other humans, and some major traffic jams. This September’s event was almost a “return to normal” and fireworks fans showed up in droves, some of them claiming their spots along the riverfront more than 24 hours in advance.
