Cincinnati’s food scene is historically well known for a couple of unique contributions to the world — chili and goetta — but Food & Wine magazine recently gave props to the city for something other than meat: bread. In its January list of the “Best Bread in Every State,” three bakeries took home top honors for Ohio, and two of them are located in Cincinnati. Sixteen Bricks, based out of Norwood, and Allez Bakery in Over-the-Rhine made the cut in a time when the magazine says “American bread-baking is the best it’s ever been.” And this isn’t the first time either of those bakeries have gotten national attention. Sixteen Bricks’ owner and baker Ryan Morgan was called “one of America’s best bread wizards” by Esquire magazine, and Allez previously landed on Food & Wine’s best bakeries in America list. sixteenbricks.com; allezbakery.com.
