Need something to do tonight? How about resisting empire building?—-
The University of Cincinnati is bringing together a group of people for a discussion called “Resisting Empire.
“Resisting Empire comes to the tri-state, where the struggle against the current direction of U.S. foreign policy will take center stage,” says a press release about the event. “Join local and regional activists who challenge the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the complicit media, and the priorities of a government that guarantees mortgage banks and not basic human needs.”
Swift Hall Room 500 is where people will gather at 7 p.m. Included in the group starting the dialogue will be Staff Sergeant Camilo Mejía.
“Resisting Empire is touring around the country from September to November, drawing large crowds and building a grassroots movement to end to American imperialism,” explains the press release. “Staff Sergeant Camilo Mejía was the first veteran to publicly refuse to redeploy to Iraq. He is the Board Chair of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), and is the author of a memoir, Road From ar Ramadi (Haymarket Books, 2007). Haymarket Books, a non-profit independent publisher of progressive books and in-depth investigative journalism, is the primary sponsor of the event.”
