If you're a veteran of military service, you won't need a fare to ride Metro buses around the Greater Cincinnati area Nov. 11, transit officials announced today.

Metro is offering free rides to active duty, reserve and retired veterans who present a U.S. Department of Defense military ID card, a Veterans Affairs ID card or a state ID with a veteran designation listed.

“Providing veterans in our community with free rides is just a very small way of saying thank you for their sacrifice, bravery and commitment to serving and protecting our country,” Interim Metro CEO Darryl Haley said in a statement.

More than 42,000 veterans live in Hamilton County, according to U.S. Census data.
