The year 2019 was overflowing with diet-conscious alcohol options, not only a national level, but locally as well. And from the looks of it, 2020 is kicking-off with more experimentation in the low-cal land of bubbly, boozy beverages — in this case, with a focus on active lifestyles.

Fifty West Brewing Company recently announced their new beer called Quencher, "crafted specifically for people pursuing a balanced and active lifestyle" and inspired by Fifty West Training Group's upcoming 17-week running program in preparation for the Flying Pig marathon.

Quencher is a 100-calorie, naturally-flavored watermelon and lime "activated ale" with added electrolytes, reduced gluten and no added sugars. The brew is 4.1 percent alcohol and has 5 grams of carbs. Cans are now available for purchase in Kroger stores.

“The trend of 'healthier-for-you' beer is on the horizon with a slew of new products coming to market. I believe we are uniquely positioned to do well in the segment. Our established Cincinnati campus featuring volleyball leagues, canoe and kayak rentals, a cycling shop, and access to the Little Miami Scenic Trail allows us to activate and provide real experiences around Quencher,” said Max Fram, Fifty West’s vice president of strategy and operations, in a press release.
