Indiana bookstore-meets-bar Books & Brews is taking their franchise to Oxford, Ohio this summer.
The newest location, owned by Ann and Neil Kamphaus Jr., will take over the former Quarter Barrel Brewery at 107 E. Church St., just off of the town's bustling E. High Street. With 10 locations throughout Indiana, this will be the first out-of-state franchise for the popular business venture.
The owners and their family moved to Oxford in 2011 from Cincinnati's East Side and felt like it was the perfect place for the hybrid shop.
"The Miami University community helps make our town a vibrant and engaging place to live and work," said Ann in an email interview.
Books & Brews combines craft beer, gently used books, games, music and more. This location is family-friendly, offering an area designated for kids with plenty of children's books.
All menu items available at the shop have literary-themed names. The shop offers four signature beers from the Indianapolis-based brewery, including Charlie and the Chocolate Stout and Nancy Brew and the Hoppy Boys. The food menu ranges from casual bar bites, like wings and nachos, to a variety of sandwiches and flatbreads. Guests can also order coffee from Hubbard & Cravens, an Indianapolis roaster who roasts two coffee varieties for the shop.
According to their website, Books & Brews aims to bring the community together over good books and beer, while disconnecting from technology.
"Books & Brews' tag line is that it is a 'place for people without a place'.... in other words, we offer a place where all are welcome, and we encourage you to unplug and reconnect by playing board games, listening to our open mic music, engaging in trivia and, of course, reading a book from our shelves," Ann says.
